Barn Plans and Pole Barn Kits
Practical Pole Building Construction...
Free barn plans can end up being very costly, so be very careful
where you choose to save your money. You will want to be very sure of the source from which you are getting
your barn plans. You do not want to have to redo everything if you end up with a mess. There are a number of
good sources for plans to build various types of pole barns or pole barn kits that you can review on line. The
more professional ones will come with supply lists as well as good documentation for the types of materials
that you will need, plus of course the measurements and how many of whatever: nails, shingles, gallons of
paint. You get the idea. A bill of materials that you can take to the builder supply house. There should be
plenty of pictures as well, imbedded in the instructions so you don't feel like you are out in left field all
by yourself.
Believe me, I have been through the building part and have seen
the mistakes that can be made – even with the best intentions. Perhaps you can learn from a few experiences I am
willing to share.
Know What You Want in a Shed
Low-Cost Pole Building Construction
First, you must know pretty much exactly what you want to achieve, if
not, your barn may look like the swing in the cartoon. (You know the one!)
You will want to be very decisive with the needs and functions of
the building. You will need to know the land on which you will build is suitable for what you want to
build.
There are a ton of things to think about before you even start
planning your shed or pole barn.
Plan Your Shed
Monte Burch's Pole Building Projects...
Make yourself a list of needs, wants and
could-we-please. Discuss them with your partners in your house; make sure you know which are the basics
and which are the must-haves and also which are the upgrades that would be nice if…. You will save yourself
many headaches for years to come by tending these details now – before you do anything else. And you will save
money in the long run. Plan for those things that you cannot add now but will be adding later, that way the
foundation is laid for the future.
If you buy a kit, there are still questions to answer and research
you should do. Make sure that the company you chose is established enough that you will have some recourse if they
don’t perform as promised. You should check with contracting agencies in their home state, find out whatever you
can about the company. Check on the materials that they use and will be shipping to you. Find out if they can
provide extra services that you might need, like electrical or building the outer frame. Can they act as a general
contractor for you if you do not want to wear that hat?
