Chrome Shelving
You will find Chrome Shelving also referred to as Steel Shelving or Wire Shelving. We have been
using this form of storage for a number of years and have found it to be a very flexible and reliable form of
indoor and garage storage.
However, that being said, you will find quit a few suppliers of "similar" products on the
internet and it may be difficult for you to judge the actual quality of the products since many companies now
manufacture this type of shelving.
We would like to be able to recommend an on-line source, but there are too many varieties
available to be able to sample them. Our favorite source, and the one we have found to be of the consistently
highest quality of the several we have tried is the one carried by the COSTCO Warehouse chain. Similar
shelving is also carried at SAM's Club, though it is not as heavy a gauge construction, the last time we compared
the two. Both sources provide a quality product and we would recommend that, if possible, you should purchase from
a local source where you can actually touch and see the quality, weight and overall "feel" of the
shelving.
If you are not able to physically see the product, you may want to test purchase one of the
shelving units from a source that guarantees satisfaction and allows easy returns for products that do not meet
expectations.
If you already have your garden shed or your
backyard storage shed, how do you organize the stuff you want to store? You can build shelves or buy
prepackaged shelving. My favorite shelving unit is a basic chrome shelving unit on wheels.
Heavy Duty Shelving
These shelves are heavy duty in nature. You can put over five
hundred pounds (yes, that is 500 lbs) per shelf. Believe me; I have pushed the envelope on that one. The units come
with six shelves that are completely adjustable. You can move the shelves up or down after assembly.
Steel Wire Shelving
Each unit contains six shelve, plus 8 half poles, which you
can combine if you want to make one six (6) foot tall unit or use as is for two three (3) foot high units.
There are plenty of fittings to hold the shelving in place and you have the option of using any
combination of the 8 bottom caps or the 8 heavy duty wheels, half of which are locking. They are relatively
easy to assemble and, while they can be done by one human, an extra pair of hands would not hurt for
installing the first shelf. Be aware that once you have connected the short poles together to form tall ones,
they will not come apart again. And there is a top pole and a bottom when you are putting those together, so
you absolutely need to pay attention. The units themselves can be disassembled or reassembled quickly and
easily.
Units on Wheels for Easy Relocation
We have more than a dozen of these mobile units. They have been used
for a hanging closet with storage shelves set underneath the clothes for shoes or boxes with a top shelf for
hat boxes or other boxes. They work well for folding clothes, like jeans, tee shirts, sweatshirts, or linens
and towels.
We have used them in a kitchen and in the pantry to hold food
stuffs as well as hanging pots and pans. As the shelving is adjustable, you can have shelves that are high enough
for large crab pots or stock pots. We have also used them as shelving for gardening, in greenhouses and in a garden
shed.
Closet or Garage Shelving
With all the places we’ve used them; I have to say that one of the
places where these chrome shelving really shines is in plain old storage. This is one unit that you can fill to
capacity and not worry about overloading the shelf.
With the size of the wheels that come
with the units, you can move them around with ease. We have had four or five units stacked, lined up side by
side, with every shelf filled. If you need something from one of the middle units, there’s no problem. Just
roll it out (be sure to give yourself enough room to do this) and remove or put back what you want. Easy as
pie! The shelf height can be adjusted when you put them together or afterwards, as I said; to accommodate
various heights of storage containers that you might use to keep your things dust free.
If you are looking to add movable shelving units to your storage
sheds, to a closet inside your home or in the garage, you cannot go wrong with units such as I have described.
Chrome Shelving units can be a life saver when it comes to additional shelving. I recommend them without
reservation and I don’t do that very often.
